My career has been shaped at the intersection where technical expertise meets executive accountability — in markets where the decisions are hard and the stakes are real.
I began as an actuarial analyst at Watson Wyatt, moved through pricing leadership at MSIG Asia and Great Eastern, rated Asia's insurers as an analyst at Standard & Poor's, and held statutory CRO roles at AIG Asia Pacific and Asia Capital Reinsurance. I then led digital insurance across eight ASEAN markets at Grab, co-founded and advised multiple insurtech and fintech ventures, served as Group CEO of Basel Medical Group through its Nasdaq listing, and sit today on the boards of SGX- and Nasdaq-listed companies. Through CER Consultancy, I advise boards, insurers and financial institutions on ESG strategy, risk governance and IPO readiness. I also build and deliver training programmes for SMU Academy, the Singapore College of Insurance, and APARI in Indonesia. That breadth — operator, CRO, director, trainer, founder — is what I bring to every engagement.
“Risk management shouldn't slow your organisation down. It should sharpen where you move next.”
My career in stages
Actuarial Foundation — Watson Wyatt, MSIG Asia, Great Eastern
Eight years building rigorous quantitative foundations. At Watson Wyatt I modelled non-life capital, M&A and DFA. At MSIG Asia I led actuarial pricing across motor, employer liability and healthcare using EMBLEM. At Great Eastern I became AVP and Head of Pricing & Technical for the GI arm. That decade of deep technical work — reserving, pricing, capital modelling — is the bedrock everything else stands on.
Financial Institutions Ratings — Standard & Poor's
As Associate Director at S&P, I rated Asia's insurers and presented at S&P-hosted conferences across the region. Sitting on the other side of the table — analysing balance sheet strength, governance and risk culture for ratings purposes — gave me a framework for evaluating organisations that I still use every day.
Statutory Chief Risk Officer — AIG Asia Pacific
As MAS statutory CRO and Chairman of the Risk Committee for AIG Asia Pacific, I was accountable for enterprise risk frameworks, catastrophe modelling, capital model oversight and board reporting across multiple jurisdictions. I also led APAC ERM for AIG's regional insurance portfolio and aggregation risk — one of the largest insurance groups in the region. This is where I learned what it truly means to own risk.
Chief Risk Officer — Asia Capital Reinsurance Group
As MAS statutory CRO at Asia Capital Reinsurance, I reported directly to the Board Risk Committee and was responsible for group-wide risk and compliance governance. Leading risk at a major regional reinsurer — where a single accumulation decision can move the balance sheet — sharpened my thinking on risk appetite, capital adequacy and the commercial consequences of governance done well or poorly.
Regional Insurance Lead — Grab · Chief Strategy Officer — Symbo
At Grab I built digital insurance programmes across seven ASEAN markets — connecting actuarial and regulatory expertise to platform-scale distribution and motor telematics / UBI products. At Symbo I led strategy for a digital broker licence in Singapore and built insurance affinity partnerships. These two years gave me the clearest view of where insurance distribution and product design are heading.
Advisory, Teaching & Board Governance
Through BRCA Pte Ltd and Alpha Consultant I advised fintech and insurtech clients across ASEAN on licensing, risk frameworks and digital strategy. In parallel I served as an Independent Director on Beverly JCG (SGX: 9QX), chairing the Risk Committee. I lectured at ESSEC Business School and Nanyang Technological University, and built ten proprietary training curricula — ERM, RBC2, cyber risk, IoT, blockchain — delivered through the Singapore College of Insurance and SMU Academy.
Group CEO — Basel Medical Group (Nasdaq: BMGL)
I led Basel Medical Group — a Singapore and Malaysia orthopaedic and neurosurgery clinic group — through its Nasdaq listing in Q1 2025. Taking a healthcare company public on a major US exchange required mastery of SEC disclosure, investor relations, governance and cross-border operational complexity. It is the most demanding thing I have done, and among the most instructive.
CEO, CER Consultancy · ESG & Sustainability Advisory · Nasdaq & SGX Board Director
Through CER Consultancy I advise boards, insurers and financial institutions on ESG strategy, risk governance and IPO readiness across ASEAN. I serve as Independent Director on iO3 Ltd (Nasdaq: IOTR) and SDAI Limited (SGX: 5TI), chairing Nominating and Risk Committees. I continue to deliver training at SMU Academy and the Singapore College of Insurance. In parallel, Verde Kinetics drives financial inclusion for Indonesian cooperatives and AgriVenture scales sustainable poultry farming. Every thread of the previous twenty-four years converges here.
